  • "AITA for telling my girlfriend's parents about her emotional affair when her dad asked about marriage?"

  • I (26M) have been with my girlfriend (24F) for about 3 years. A little over a month ago, I found conversation screenshots on her laptop which showed that she had been emotionally cheating
  • on me with her coworker for several weeks. The screenshots had things like, she wishes she met him before me, how she has never felt this connected to someone.
  • "While we were there, her coworker kept texting her, she kept making excuses to walk away to talk"
  • I did not confront her right away because I knew that I needed time to understand my feelings. We were scheduled to go on vacation to her parents lakehouse
  • that weekend with the family, so I decided that it would be best to go on vacation and then break up with her after.

  • While we were there, her coworker kept texting her. Every time she got a text, she was smiling at her phone, and kept making excuses to walk away to
  • talk. Her parents were noticing the situation and asked if everything was okay between us, to which I said yes.

  • On the last night of our vacation, her dad took me aside and asked when I was going to make an honest woman out of her. I told
  • him that it was never going to happen because she is cheating on me with her coworker.
  • Her mom overheard me and started crying, her dad looked shocked, and my girlfriend walked in and saw everyones faces and asked what happened.
  • Her dad told her that I had "aired their dirty laundry". She was furious at me for not talking to her about it first and for telling her family about it. She keeps
  • telling me what I saw was just friendship between her and her coworker and that I misunderstood everything.
  • Now she is telling everyone that I betrayed her privacy by looking at her laptop and humiliated her in front of her family, but she left it open on our shared desk? AITA?
  • Nsr444 Nta, he asked a question, you answered with the truth. It was an intrusive question imo.
  • Cool-Falcon5093 NTA you got put in an unreasonable situation and honestly kept it cooler than most would. While it's probably better to
  • communicate with your partner, having the onus be on you to initiate this conversation is super
  • Ultimately she brought this on herself, you don't really owe a cheater anything like common decency, unless you're feeling charitable.
  • She literally FAFO'd and probably did more than text.
